ITU World Cup Triathlon , Salford

I was first introduced to the exciting sport of triathlon when I was employed by the City of Salford to act as official photographer for the 2004 World Cup. Ten hours in the rain, 900  photographs later I was hooked on photographing the sport. What I was also so impressed with was not only the superb fitness of both elite and amateur athletes alike but just what exceptionally nice people they were and so very sporting. Of course the sport is highly competitive but athletes in this event compete in the end against themselves and actually help each other out during the three sections of the race.

The Salford course is very popular with world class athletes as it is a beautiful setting in the regenerated dockland area of the city and mostly flat. The ITU , the sports governing body,  have elected to let Salford host the event since 2003. The Salford Tri is set at what is know as the "Olympic" distance, namely a 1.5 km swim in the impressive Huron basin, a 40 km bike ride and then a 10km run. This year the event takes place on July 29th  and of course I can't wait.
